How credits work

What a credit is, when you are charged, and how to keep an eye on your balance.

cutipAI is pay as you go. There is no subscription: you add credit to your balance, and each generation spends a little of it.

One credit is one dollar

Your balance is shown in dollars, and so is every cost. There is no separate credit unit and no conversion rate — what a control says it costs is what it costs.

You see the cost before you click

Every control that starts a paid generation carries its Estimated cost. Hover over the button to see it — or press and hold it on a touchscreen, which shows the price without starting the generation. Reaching the button with the keyboard shows it too. Some controls add a breakdown under the estimate when the total depends on your choices — for example, how long a clip is or how many references it uses.

If a generation would cost more than your balance, Not enough credit appears beside the button straight away, without your having to look.

When you are charged

  • When you start a generation, its estimated cost is held from your balance.
  • When it finishes, you are charged for it, and the charge appears in your history.
  • If it fails, or you cancel it, you are not charged. The held amount returns to your balance.

A generation that is still running shows as Held in your history, with the amount set aside for it. See History for how to read each job.

Your balance

Your balance is always visible in the top bar of the site and of the editor. The Credits page shows it in full, next to Usage this month and your daily average.

The Credits page: your balance, this month's usage and the low balance alert.
The Credits page: your balance, this month's usage and the low balance alert.

If a generation ever costs more than the balance you had left, the difference is shown on the Credits page as an amount outstanding. Your next purchase clears it before it adds to your balance.

Credit you buy does not expire. Credit given to you as a promotion or a gift can carry an end date; when it does, the Credits page shows how much expires and when.

Low balance alert

The Low balance alert emails you before you run short, so a generation never fails for lack of credit.

  1. In Once the credit balance hits, enter the balance at which you want to be told.

  2. In Suggest topping up by, enter the amount you usually add. The email carries a one-click link to add exactly that.

  3. Click Update. The panel confirms the alert in a sentence, and shows On.
